Gravitate North East

Biodiversity

The forest as it is today, what Gravitate North East proposes for wildlife and habitats, and what it does not propose.

The existing situation

  • Pitfichie is commercial forestry.
  • Large areas were recently clear-felled following Storm Arwen.
  • Replanting is already planned by Forestry and Land Scotland.

The Biodiversity Plan

A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal has informed Gravitate North East's Biodiversity Plan. The plan recognises habitats including coniferous woodland, upland heathland, native pine woodland, wet woodland, mixed deciduous woodland, dry stone walls, water features, and areas affected by clear-felling after Storm Arwen.

What Gravitate North East proposes

  • Biodiversity monitoring
  • Native species enhancement
  • Wildlife recording, including reporting sightings to NESBReC where appropriate
  • Habitat improvements
  • Environmental volunteering

What Gravitate North East does not propose

  • Large-scale woodland clearance
  • Removal of protected habitats
  • Construction outside agreed corridors
